Introduction

Run Sandymoor participates in the North West Sunday Cross Country League (NWCCL) during the winter months.

1. The league aims to offer cross country races throughout the winter, encouraging participation and fostering a sociable environment for runners. Athletes of all abilities are welcome to take part. Thirty clubs of various sizes from Merseyside, Cheshire, and Lancashire compete in the league, striving to claim victory by the end of the season. Races are held at 10 a.m. on Sunday mornings, hosted by different member clubs of the league. Cross country is an excellent way to stay motivated and maintain race fitness throughout the winter months while having fun. It strengthens the legs and core muscles, enhances the ability to run on diverse terrains in various weather conditions, and builds resilience.

Cross-country races, with all courses being off-road and suitable for running spikes. Course distances range from 4 ½ to 5 ½ miles and cover terrain such as grass, mud, dirt trails, and hills. Some events include refreshments provided by the host club.
